Matt tried to quit, only to be convinced by Eric to stay on the team.

This resulted in Eric leaving without really finishing his thoughts, and helping Matt slide into increasing bitterness about being pushed aside. An excellent little moment had Eric break this news to Matt and try to also give him some words of comfort, only to be awkwardly interrupted by Matt's mom and grandmother coming home. The inevitable happened here, and in the wake of overwhelming pressure and overwhelming evidence that perhaps it was the right way to go, Eric made JD the first string quarterback, and Matt suddenly found himself QB2 – a simple term with a hell of a lot of sad weight to it. I'm very curious to see where Matt's storyline takes him. Here though, her getting a tattoo without her parents' permission led to a pretty wonderful scene between her and Tami, as Tami talked about her own rebellious past. The show has to ride a fine line with Julie, who is used often as the bratty, rebellious teenager – it's believable, but as a viewer, can test the limits. Kudos to showrunner Jason Katims, for his strong work in his debut as a director. However, isn't Tyra now class president? Wouldn't that involve some duties we should see brought up? Even in the midst of this though were quiet moments that were very easy to admire, such as the nearly silent visual of Tyra and Cash driving together, followed by her awe at a newborn horse with its mother. And her relationship with Cash isn't helping, nor is her blind eye to his pill popping ways. We learned this week that Tyra is really screwing up her senior year, when she needs to be buckling down.

I would totally watch the Street and Herc Show. It's also great to see the always funny Herc again, who had one hell of a line about why babies love vagina. However, there were some other moments in this storyline that were very strong, including the scene in which Jason plays Buddy like a fiddle, convincing him to sell him the house by evoking something he knows is Buddy's kryptonite – a good Dillon Panthers story, with Jason as the star. It was also a bit too "TV" and dramatically convenient that Erin tells Jason she is moving away on the very day the sale of the house goes through. His scheme to buy and flip a house to make money seemed ill-conceived, considering he was going on the mere hope that this would help entice Erin to eventually live with him. It was no surprise that Jason seemed to be a great dad, but he didn't have a very good perspective on what his relationship with his son's mother would be like. Jason is a daddy now, desperately trying to make a home life with Erin when she seems to really not be interested in one. Unfortunately though, it wasn't under the best of circumstances.
